I just saw a new Mac ad ... the Windows guy is all fat because he comes with "all this free trial software ... all these programs don't do very much." No more than 5 seconds later, the Mac bitch is all, "Macs just come with the stuff you want, iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb..." Yeah. Because iLife does OH SO MUCH. Assholes.
SO Windows suck because they come with software that, without purchasing a single license, allow me to burn/rip CD's and DVD's, watch any type of media I've ever downloaded, and come with trial anti-virus software (which I quickly replace with free-license AVG)?
I had that Powerbook Pro for the summer. I played with Garageband for 3 mins. and got bored. I opened iMovie and realized that you either a) use a shitty-ass built-in template, or b) use the built-in functionality for "special effects" that look like they're from an 80's B-movie horror flick. I tried to launch iWeb to find a registration screen with a $100 price tag ... and I came to the conclusion that iLife is FREE because it is SHIT.
Gah... I'm just pissed that Apple tries to market their computers as "self-contained" meaning you don't need to buy software to "do what you want" with it. Well, at $3,000 for a fucking laptop, all I can say is that shit had BETTER be self-contained, or you just got raped in the ass.
I'm typing this entry from my iMac at work. I have to use the iMac today so I can use Final Cut Pro (self-contained?? Cause this piece of software cost the College over $1,000...) and the Mac just pisses me off. Even the damn mouse looks like a sex toy.
So for anybody who enjoys going to "indie" coffee shops, buying legit music through iTunes (which must be played on an iPod, $200+ for comparable storage to my Sandisk mp3 player, $60), wearing jeans and hoodies 24/7, and only using the computer for the web (iWeb needs a .mac account - only $100 / year! Self-contained my ass), then a Mac is fine.
But for anyone who wants to play video games, do web development, do serious photo editing, or pirate ANYthing period... you've gotta go for Windows! (Orrr perhaps Linux... I know I won't be upgrading to Vista, because Vista is a bastard offspring of Mac OS-X - I'll be upgrading to Ubuntu when the time comes... when I can't hold on to Windows XP any longer.)
Ok, I'm done railing on the Macs... I saw an awesome MadTV spoof of Steve Jobs unveiling the new iRack ... "But sir, the iRack looks unstable!" hahahaha
