I'm trying to make Chad come up here this weekend before I make any other plans. Chad, if you read this, get your ass up here! Man, it's been too long! We don't even have to invite other slackers over like normal, we can just find some video games, screw around, and teach this town a lesson. (I'm moving to China soon ... better hang out with me while you can!) :)
This guy in my Chinese class just walked past my office and gave me a brochure for his computer repair company. I just laughed and told him, "Thanks, but I build my own computers." He continued to give me his price list and tell me, "Look through here, maybe there's something you need... we are pretty computer savvy!" I just looked through his list - pretty elementary stuff! "We will setup your new computer for you complete with hooking up your monitor, your keyboard, your mouse, and even your speakers!" - $99
OMG NOT THE SPEAKERS, holy shit, I can trick my computer into thinking an IDE harddrive is a writable CD tray by fucking with the BIOS, but I'll be damned if I can figure out where I plug in this color-coded speaker jack! .... Ohhh, you plug it into the hole of the same color?? Well I'll be damned. Who knew??
Haha seriously, I just finished telling this guy that I build my own computers, and he still thinks I might need help "backing up my harddrive to disk" - $49? Then he asked me what OS I use, and I was like, "Windows XP, of course." He railed on me for about 3 minutes on why I should be either running Linux or buying an Apple. I just had to say 3 words, "I'm a gamer." He shut the fuck up.
Why is it so cool to be a Microsoft Hater? I guess some people are just in denial.
After reading about the new Digital Right Management system in Windows Vista, however, I have decided two things: I'm going to stick with Windows XP as long as possible, and instead of upgrading to Vista when there is no other choice, I will be upgrading to Linux Fedora Core. The whole DRM system is designed so Hollywood and large record labels can dictate exactly what we watch / download / listen to. It's bullshit. I'm a pirate and I plan to stay that way. (Yippee ki yay, mother fuckers! I love Die Hard references.)
Ok, I actually have to do work today, I can't just sit here sipping coffee and updating my journal all afternoon, even though I would really like that!
